Root Canal Treatment | Stop Tooth Pain

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage within the inner part of a tooth, called the pulp. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, and it extends from the crown of the tooth down to the root canals that are embedded in the jawbone.

When is a Root Canal Needed?

A root canal is necessary when the pulp of the tooth becomes infected or inflamed, often due to:

  • Deep tooth decay
  • A cracked or fractured tooth
  • Repeated dental procedures on the same tooth
  • Trauma to the tooth (such as a blow to the mouth)

What Happens During a Root Canal Procedure?

Diagnosis: Your dentist or endodontist (a specialist in root canal treatments) will examine the tooth, often using X-rays, to assess the extent of the damage or infection.

Removal of Infection: The infected or damaged pulp is removed from the inside of the tooth. The hollow space is then cleaned and shaped to prepare it for sealing.

Filling and Sealing: After the pulp is removed, the space is filled with a biocompatible material to prevent future infection. The tooth is then sealed.

Restoration: In many cases, a crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its shape, strength, and function.

Benefits of a Root Canal

Saves the tooth: The primary goal is to preserve the natural tooth, avoiding extraction.

Relieves pain: A root canal eliminates the infection that is often causing severe tooth pain.

Restores function: After the procedure, the tooth can function normally for chewing and biting.
